Grungy Brushes
I enjoy this tutorial, and I find when I make brushes I'm constantly following these steps. So to begin, find an image of a tree, flower, or something griddy that would make a good grunge brush. I'm going to use a tree because it's the most common and it usually makes the best brushes. There's many different ways of making brushes (don't hestitate to try some of your own methods along the way).
Go to Image » Mode » Greyscale to make the image black and white, colors tend to make brushes all different shades and parts dissappear so it's not really good to have colors. Once your done that, head to Image » Adjustments » Threshold, with bigger images 100-200 is good. That will make the image strickly black and white, with a bit of grunge.

Now go to Layer » Add Layer Mask » Reveal All, that will make your image look a bit see through. Now for the effects! Almost anything in the Filter section will do, but what is usually the best is Blur - Gaussian Blur & Render Clouds. After you've gotten all your effects now, just go to Image » Flatten Image, to make it normal again.

Almost done! When making brushes "white" or "#FFFFFF" is not considered a color so it will come up as transparent, so when you create brushes don't ever worry if it has a white background because it won't show up on your brush. Now to make your brush a "brush", go to Edit » Define Brush and name it what you want. Now start stamping it! The more the grungyer. Here's how some of mine look from the tree we just did.
